Dear Parents,

Today we began the day with The Daily Five. We looked at the meaning behind an 'author's purpose'. When we pick a book, a good idea is to think about - Why did the author write the book? Students were taught an easy way to remember the different purposes by using the word PIE. Students were great at identifying the purpose of their own books.

Next we had math. In math class we are learning about bar graphs. Today we surveyed our friends to give us data to create a bar graph. Students are still at the beginning stages of including key features to their graph. With more practice, they will be experts. Can you figure out what survey matches the bar graph below?

To end the day we looked at directions to help our map skills. Students learnt about north, northeast, east,  southeast, south, southwest, west, northwest. At the end of our lesson we got to use a real compass to figure out what directions things were in our school.
