Spellingcity is a fantastic website that helps your child study the words they are focusing on in class. There are not only a huge variety of games that can be 'played', but also tests that can be taken to see how well your child is spelling as well as understanding the vocabulary of each word. Below I have tried to show you how to use the website. Please feel free to message me if you have a question relating to the site.
How do I login?
Please visit www.spellingcity.com. You will then need to enter your child's username and password under 'student login'.
What does my child do once they login?
Your child should click 'lists and games' to begin using their spelling words.
I don't know what to do now? No games are working!
Each student has been assigned a spelling group. Please note that although your child is in a spelling group, their words may be different to the rest of the children in their group, depending on who passed their spelling test and who didn't. Each child can only see the lists that I make visible to them. The words that the students are studying are words and/or spelling patterns that they personally need to work on and implement in their writing. Students were assigned groups according to a spelling test that they completed in the first week of school. The test recognised what spelling patterns the students already know, and what ones they must now work on.
Students can use the words from either their assigned group, or use the Grade 2 Extra words. The Grade 2 words are optional, but are words they should know and use this year.
P3 shares our account. They can't see your words, and we can't see their words.
Games or tests will not appear until you click your spelling group and list.
What do I do once I click my list?
Now the fun begins! Click an option to start learning.
View: look at the spelling words
Print: print your spelling words
Study: different ways for you to remember and study your words and vocabulary
Test: it may be a good idea to do a test at the beginning and the end of the week
Games: you will find a huge variety of different games, using your child's spelling list
Is this only available through the website?
No! You can also download this as an application on a tablet or your smartphone. We use this on the iPads inside the classroom as an option during 'word work'.
