October 10th, 2016

Dear Parents,

I hope you all enjoyed your break. P2 had a great day back at school.

To begin the day students got to go to the library. Students searched for good-fit books, and remembered to get a variety of books (we have a 1 comic book rule). Once we finished at the library, we went back to the classroom and shared our exciting adventures during the break. It sounded like they all had a lot of fun.

Next, we did The Daily Five. We began with writing, focusing on sequencing words. These are words that will help students to write in order. What did they do at the beginning, middle, and end of their break? Together we thought of many words, as well as created a brainstorm to guide our writing. We will continue with our writing tomorrow as we did not get too far.

After our writing we did word work. Most students were given new words to learn for the week. I have noticed that the students who do not do homework, are the ones struggling to pass their spelling test.

During math class we talked about graphs. Students brainstormed as a class what they know about graphs, and what kind of graphs they already know. They also were able to go on the iPads to research other graphs.

To end the day we had unit. In unit we were introduced to our new topic - maps. Thank you to all the parents who helped share maps with the classroom. There were enough so that each student could look and inquire about a map. During this unit we will be learning how to use a map, looking at earth's features, and looking at how maps vary.
