Dear Parents,

Wow! What a great day we had today. I am so excited with how well P2 has progressed in their understanding within our lines of inquiries. During unit we inquired into the 'Coats of Arms' of different countries. Students got to look at different symbols that represent a variety of countries. Our task for the lesson was to then take our knowledge and create a brand new Coats of Arms for our country. The students were extremely creative and were able to describe every symbol/picture they created. Below I have some examples of what students created. I truly am so excited for how well the students did today in unit. It shows me that there learning is heading in a very meaningful direction.

In math class we continued to work on word problems. Students looked at the important pieces of information in a word problem to help them create a strategy that will assist them in solving it. Sometimes word problems can contain useless information to trick the person solving it. We focused on what was important, to help us figure out the answers.

To end the day we had Daily Five. In the first half we looked at the website www.spellingcity.com. This is a very beneficial website that I highly recommend to help children with their spelling. Understanding the sounds and letter patterns will also increase reading and writing comprehension. To end our Daily Five we did one round of read-to-self. Students have maintained 11 minutes of stamina. This is fantastic, though we are focusing on reading even longer.
