November 22nd, 2016

Dear Parents,

This week we are wrapping up unit 2. The students have been working really hard to finish their end of unit project.

To begin the day the students did some Daily Five. It was an exciting time because everyone officially was able to choose their own activity, and the order of their activities. Giving students choice, gives them the motivation and stamina they need to remain on task. Students must do work on writing each day, and then are able to choose the next two activities. BUT students must complete all 5 activities before repeating an activity twice (apart from work on writing as this will be daily).  It was amazing to hear how quiet everyone was working today. The students were all so focused!

Next we had math. In math we worked on our daily warm-up. Our warm-up has many math problems that we have already studied this year. It is a great way for students to revise old skills. Next, we fixed our bar graph and pictograph activity from yesterday. Only one student got 100%. We will have a test on Friday to see how well we know our graphs.

To end the day we had unit. Students were either painting their salt maps, or working on their presentation of their key, compass, title etc. These maps will be done by Friday. I cannot wait to see how they turn out.
