To begin the day students worked on some learning goals, thinking about certain areas they would like to improve/focus on. Most students wrote about learning goals related to either math, unit, writing, or reading.
During our Daily Five time we continued to talk about details in our writing. Instead of writing about lots of little ideas, we focused on writing one or two ideas with interesting details.
Example 1 with too many ideas: Today Grace will come to my house. We will eat food, play games, and sing songs. Grace is my best friend. We will have fun.
Example 2 with less ideas and more details: Today my best friend Grace will come to my house after school. We will sing many English songs to each other and perform to my mum. Our favorite song to sing is Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars because it makes us want to dance when we sing. Once we have finished singing, we will play hide and seek. Grace is very good at finding good hiding places.
During math time we looked at co-ordinates, focusing on latitude and longitude lines on a map/globe. Some students were able to find the co-ordinates for their home country! If you look at the co-ordinates 120S, 40E you will see North America.
To end our class, students continued with their procedural writing. Tomorrow all students should either begin or complete their published piece of writing.
